Our delightful customer, Mary E, came in to get olive oil for her favorite Alabama Firecracker recipe, and she shared it with us. She uses a medium Unflavored Olive Oil for the best flavor. Our olive oil makes this recipe much healthier than the typical grocery store varieties.
1 cup medium intensity Unflavored Olive Oil such as Arbequina or Chiquitita
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 (1 oz.) pkgs. ranch dressing mix
3 tablespoons crushed red pepper flakes
1 (16 oz.) pkg. saltine crackers (oyster crackers are also an option)
To a gallon zipper bag, add the olive oil and all of the seasonings; shake. Add the saltine crackers to the bag, seal and gently turn over the bag until the crackers are coated with the seasoning. Let the crackers sit in the bag overnight.
Preheat the oven to 250 degrees and lay the crackers on a baking sheet. Bake until golden brown and the oil has been absorbed, about 15 minutes. Cool and serve.
